I love Idaho

We spent Labor Day weekend in Idaho. It was our first visit since we moved away last summer...a long-overdue trip! I am so happy we finally made it back. It was hard to leave Idaho when we moved - great friends, beautiful scenery, just a great life there overall. Couldn' t beat it, in my opinion!

We left California Thursday afternoon, spent the night in Winnemucca, Nevada, and finished the drive on Friday. It was smart to break it up like that...much easier with two little kids! And I don't think the drive is half bad when you have such amazing scenery along the way (see pics)! Driving in Friday afternoon we felt right at home again. I got a little emotional as I realized how much I really missed it all. But of course that was overtaken by the excitement of seeing my friends again.

Jeff had a golf date scheduled with some buddies, so I dropped him off right when we got to town and I headed over to Eric & Misha's house, where we were staying for the weekend. That night Eric & Jeff met us over at Tracy & John's for a BBQ. It felt so great to be back in Idaho with good friends. We all picked up right where we left off. When we lived in Idaho, Tracy, Misha & I were in a playgroup together, and it was so much fun to have our boys, Caden, Ayden & Tyler all together again. Seeing them together as 2-year-olds was a blast, and they had a blast together racing, playing in Caden's tent, eating popsicles, just being little boys (check out the pics in our picasa album--link at the bottom of this post...). I know if we lived there still they'd all be the best of friends. It was also really special to be together as we have all recently added second children to our families. Eric & Misha had Anna at the end of February, we had Colton mid-April, and John & Tracy had Easton at the beginning of June. After the BBQ we drove by our old house. It looked just the same, except the rose bushes in front were HUGE, and I could see that they had painted over our red walls and put up red curtains instead. It was nice to see it; we loved that house and the neighborhood, too.

Here is a picture of the three boys at Tracy's house Friday night.

Saturday we all went to Settlers Park: Tracy with her two boys, Eric & Misha with their kids, and us with our boys. The older kids played in the water features and on the playground, and the babies hung out, literally, in front carriers on their mamas. Colton got to swing for the first time at the park, and he loved it! The younger siblings even "played" together on a blanket before we left. Jeff & Eric went to the Boise State football game that night. Misha's mom came over so that we could have a girls' night out once the kids had gone to bed. Tyler didn't want to go to sleep, so we didn't get out of the house until 9:30. But we had a great time. We joke that we went dancing, as we found ourselves dancing in the card aisle at Walmart to the musical cards. What a crazy night we had...haha. But seriously, it was SO NICE to be out and be just us, not having to worry about anyone else, just a relaxing night out. We finished off the evening with a midnight snack (or meal...we each had a full breakfast plate!) at Denny's. I think the guys were a little freaked out to find us gone and Betty (Misha's mom) asleep on the couch when they got home from the game as they had forgotten that we were going out, too. We got a good laugh out of it. Below are some pictures from our afternoon at the park.

Sunday Misha & Eric treated us to brunch at the Idaho Steakhouse, which was delicious! And that afternoon we were able to go to another friend's (Kim's) birthday party for her son, Timmy, who was just turning two. Kim also just had a baby, Ryan, about a week and a half before. It was great to see her and her boys. Here is a picture of Tracy, Misha & I at Timmy's party with our new babies, and a picture of Tyler watching Timmy open his presents.

We had to leave straight from Timmy's party to head home. We were sad to have to leave, but we are so happy that we made the trip. It was a short visit but well worth it! We are so thankful to our friends for showing us a great weekend and reminding us that good friendships will last, no matter what distance comes between.

Here's a link to our photos from the trip (there are too many to share here!) Some of the pictures are from Tracy's album (she takes great pictures!!! Thank you, Tracy!):

I agree the scenery in that part of the country is AMAZING...you gotta see it to believe it. That is one of the reasons we love going back to Utah.

I am sure sad we couldn't hook up! But it looks like you had plenty of fun! You are looking great! I have to agree I love the mountains here! I grew up without any and it is great to have them around!
Talk to you later!

I think you might feel about Idaho the way I feel about California. There's something about the place you buy your first house and have your first baby that preserves it in memory as magical. We always stop by the old Fairfield house when we visit -- it seems like such a long time ago!
